- Private-sector employers must adapt within their facilities or workplace areas that are suitable, comfortable, hygienic, and accessible so that breastfeeding women can breastfeed, extract, store, and preserve breast milk.
- They must also ensure the adequate preservation of breast milk during the working day.
- Employers must authorize breast milk extraction or breastfeeding sessions for all mothers in a breastfeeding period, up to 12 months after childbirth.
- Within a 6-hour workday, the mother is entitled to up to 20 minutes every 2 hours exclusively for breastfeeding or extraction.
- These breaks may not be accumulated or exchanged for early departure.
- Under no circumstances will the time granted for milk extraction or breastfeeding be counted as part of the reduced workday established by law, deducted from vacation time, or be a reason for reducing the mother’s salary.
- Private-sector employers are obligated to conduct at least once a year internal activities promoting breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and healthy nutrition, through meetings, demonstrations, workshops, fairs, campaigns, and educational materials, among others.
- Within 90 days, the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Public Health shall issue the official guidelines for the adaptation, use, and registration of breastfeeding support rooms.
